On 14 March, in Vadodara, Gujarat, Vikas, his brother Jayesh, and his sister Komal had gone out to buy refreshments when a speeding car struck their two-wheeler. All three siblings sustained injuries.
“I stay in Fatehganj. I was out with my siblings and neighbours to get some refreshments. Our neighbour Hemaliben Patel has died, and her husband, Purabbhai Patel, is in critical condition. We were on two-wheelers when, suddenly, a car hit us from behind. It was being driven at a very high speed. When I was falling from the scooter, my eyes were open, and I saw parts of the other scooter (which Purab and Hemali were riding) flying through the air. The couple suffered serious injuries," Vikas was quoted as saying by ANI.
Calling for strict action against the accused, Vikas stated that only severe punishment would make them realise their mistakes.
“Such things can’t be controlled with just a fine… A fine is not the solution. They will realise their mistakes only when strict punishment is given," he further said.
Vikas also said that the driver of the car was doing it (over-speeding) for “enjoyment purposes" adding that no normal person could do and say such things.
Notably, a devastating collision between a car and a two-wheeler in Vadodara, Gujarat, resulted in the death of a woman and left eight others injured, police reported on Saturday.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar stated, “There were more than three vehicles involved in the incident. This included two Activa vehicles and one EV (Electric Vehicle)."
The accused driver, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, has already been taken into police custody, and a drink-driving case has been filed against him.
Although Rakshit, a 20-year-old law student, denied consuming alcohol, CCTV footage captured moments before the accident shows him drinking from a bottle. However, the contents of the bottle remain unclear.
“We were ahead of the scooty, turning right, and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right… The car slightly touched the other vehicle, and the airbag opened suddenly, obstructing our vision, and the car went out of control," said the accused, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia.
Meanwhile, another video circulating on social media shows Chaurasia shouting “another round," “Nikita," and “Om Namah Shivay" immediately after the crash.
