Are you into any activities that some people might deem risky?

I took up scuba diving last year, and am completely hooked on it! While I admit that the first time I jumped off a boat in the ocean weighted down with a lot of equipment, it was a scary thing to do, but after experiencing the amazing feeling of floating though an uninhabited world with no sounds distracting me, I find it to be an amazingly peaceful activity.

Several of my co-workers are divers, and when we were discussing our latest dives, my boss piped up with "I would rather jump out of a plane than jump in the ocean", and I was blown away at the thought of anybody being willing to jump out of a plane.

I guess each person's thrill is someone else's hard stop.

I love diving. When I started dating my husband, 23 years ago, I would go out on the boat with and watch him jump in. So I got certified to be with him. It really is great to see all the life under the sea. (Yes I know it’s from a Disney movie) Night and wreck dives are my favorite.

I dont see thrills, I like calm and quiet

 

I really enjoyed diving too in the 1980's. But the reefs are all but dead now and the colors all washed out.
I hear there's still some good dives in Turks and Caicos, but haven't been there yet.

Jumping from an airplane, I considered it. A friend gave me a jumper's magazine and I read it. Last page had tales of casualties. One girl on her
first jump took it all the way to the ground. She was 25, and I was 25 at the time. Nope. <yes, now a days you jump tandem with an experienced jumper>
But still. One friend of mine, a jumper had another jumper friend with a monkey. He decided to jump beside his monkey and out they went. Yanked the
cord for his monkey, pulled his, and damned if the monkey didn't go crawling up the cords. That didn't end well.

Living in south Florida, near the ocean, is an easy thing to pick up. It really is the greatest feeling. He’s taken me diving all over the Caribbean. We did a 10 day island hoping trip in our boat one time. That’s was fun. We had no destination and just stopped to dive.

Wife and I were, but aged out of it. I read once, may or may not be true, that over half of all diving deaths were caused by heart related problems.
As for Thrill seekers, it seems some young people of today seem to do things to get noticed on social media.

Some people say riding a motorcycle is deadly, and while living in Houston it was unless you went out into the rural areas. But I have done sky diving, in high school I was in junior rodeo, we did some cave exploration when I could move better and was younger, never did the scuba thing I have a fear of drowning, I do bush craft, and I enjoy ocean kayaking. None seem to be dangerous to me but other people think I am crazy for taking a 15 foot kayak into the ocean, going camping with nothing more that a piece of rope and an ax, and hitting the mountain roads at 100 MPH on a motorcycle.

Does running into burning buildings count. What about being shot at on medical calls?

 

As part of SAR I did a lot of abseiling / controlled decent work which was alot of fun and got me into rap-running ( Rappelling but going down facing the ground and descending really fast ). Most of it was pretty safe as long as you didn't get the abseiling / rappelling gear mixed up.
Also did police dog training that was pretty risky depending on your point of view. A side note... those dogs bite really hard
Spent more than one night up the side of a mountain in sub-zero temps hiding from the dogs with only limited supplies and 'played' capture n evade with them as part of their search work.

I've parachuted from a moored balloon and been winched up into a Wessex helicopter (These two in the Women's Royal Air Force) and abseiled/rappelled down tall buildings for charity in civvie life. The first abseil/rappel I did off the top of a hotel, a couple of younger girls were laughing at me for being the oldest in the group, but when it got to it one of them couldn't let go and trust her ropes and had to go back down in the lift! Thank you Karma for letting me watch!! Needless to say I love heights and the adrenaline rush is unforgettable. I was going to do some scuba training once on holiday in the Med, but it was cancelled at the last moment.

Skiing
All my friends gave up years ago , as age got to them ,
but I just love it , so kept on keeping on.

I don't bomb the downhill quite the same anymore (things hurt to much now , and old bones don't heal so well [I broke a leg pretty bad about 30 years ago on the same hill , took two years before I could skid around again , so I know a bit about that]
so now I'm a little more sedate ,
But
I love going out wide , and making every run as long and interesting as possible ,
so I still cover and see much more of the mountain than 90-95% of skiers ever do.

There can be up to about 3,000 up there on a good day , and I can be out of sight of any sometimes.

Added bonus to being an old fart , all passes are free
so it cost me nothing now.

Also ski on the oldest skis on the hill .
200 Blizzards , burnt orange diamond pattern ,
with Cobra bindings , and amazing segmented edges , that never need sharpening.
Long , narrow , flexible n fast , and stick on very steep slopes like shit on a blanket.

 

Another one of my husbands joys. With everything he does, I look boring.

Here’s what happened.

 

When I was young use to waterboard at the cottage. Towed around the lake on a board with the front corners rounded off. Great fun.
Water skiing was okay too.

 

I have surfed at New Smyrna Beach, Florida
Shark bite capital of the world. I have been at the famous jetties and have seen the sharks in the water beside me, mostly 2 to 3 foot blacktips. It will get your blood pumping for sure. I have actually witnessed 2 people get bit and the after affects of the rescue operation. Both were bit on the leg or ankle and both bites were small.

Ive been on the water my whole life and have a healthy respect for the ocean, but dont fear it.

Years ago (2001) I crossed the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay on a small Jetski.
(Yamaha 760cc) . About 14 miles across, so 28 or so round trip. Smooth water crossing
Over but chop picked up on the way back.
Was a fun trip.
Im getting older now, but need to get out and do something adventurous again
