Nasser Al Khelaifi, President of PSG, is one of UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin in their prolonged battle against the European Superleague that has been pushed by Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, regardless of what happens with Juventus, their third ally, after Andrea Agnelli’s departure, the last in a long list of leadership changes for the Italian side. In an interview with Marca, Al Khelaifi was asked about whether the Superleague “has a future,” as they wait for an official court ruling on December 15th. “The truth is that I feel sad for them,” he said satirically. PSG is still chasing the team’s first Champions League despite the immense success they have enjoyed in the local tournament.

Al Khelaifi continued by stating that he felt bad for the people that support the Superleague. “They’ve proved time and time again that they don’t understand football or its ecosystem,” he climbed. “Football isn’t a legal contract, it’s a social contract. When the supporters were protesting in the street when the ‘not-so-Superleague’ kicked off and failed, they weren’t chanting about social contracts. Football is a bond between clubs and players, between players and fans, and between fans and communities. That will never change.” Al Khelaifi added.

Besides, Al Khelaifi also responded to the ever-lasting comments about PSG star Kylian Mbappé, who decided to sign a new deal with the team and dismiss the offer that Real Madrid made. “I have to answer these questions every month, every week, every day even. He just signed his contract and we’re all happy. The team hasn’t lost a single match this season, we’ve reached 100 consecutive matches with a soldout stadium…,” he highlighted before ensuring that Qatar’s investment in the team won’t get weaker after the World Cup, in fact, it will grow even more. “That’s a joke, right? This is just the beginning for QSI (Qatar Sports Investment) and PSG, and everything that we’re doing. We’re about to enter the second phase where we’ll see incredible growth, our best days are still to come for PSG and everyone on our side,” he added.

Al Khelaifi didn’t want to close the door to other investors in his growth plan. “They want to have minority shares, and we’re having open conversations with them. In these talks, the club's valuation has reached 4 billion euros, it’s not a target, that’s the market valuation. It’s fantastic, we’ve built a brand and a business from scratch, and now we see the results of our work. Remember this is just the beginning. Our project is ambitious and long-term,” Al Khelaifi concluded.
